Good News in Anyone’s Language. We are a community passionate about languages. Loving how God speaks through his word and want others to have that chance to hear him. Through Bible translation, literacy, Scripture engagement and other ways. So that forgotten communities may encounter God in a language that speaks to their heart.

Our story began when Robert Story saw a Summer Institute of Linguistics (SIL) advertisement in the Moody Monthly magazine from the USA. Robert saw that linguistic training would fill a need for Australians stepping out of their cultural boundaries to share the gospel. Robert convinced the Interdenominational Missionary Fellowship (IMF) of Victoria of this need. On 10 January 1947, IMF invited SIL to bring their Summer School programme to Australia. SIL responded by sending Ken and Evelyn Pike in 1949, to check out the feasibility of doing this. The Pikes were on their way to New Guinea at the time. The first SIL Summer School was launched in Berwick, Victoria on 9 January 1950. Australian academics worked with the Americans to teach at this Summer School and the ones run in the subsequent summers. These were well attended.

WBT seeks to see Australian Christians helping indigenous peoples of the world become true disciples of Jesus Christ through the power of His Word in their heart language.

WBT Australia run a number of programs for churches designed to help them find their place in missions and to stimulate people for evangelism and ministry.

WBT Australia facilitate Summer Institute of Linguistics (SIL) courses designed to train people for the ministry of Bible translation.

WBT Australia produce Computer, Video, and Print related media to inform, teach, and inspire churches for missions.

Together with Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF), Wycliffe operate a motel in Cairns called Tree Tops Lodge. This lodge benefits the ministry in amazing ways.

WBT Australia also operate mission awareness tours, and conduct construction projects for associated missions.
